The Erotica Bibliophile

Originally uploaded by opticaljaguar.
The Erotica Bibliophile is an ongoing and ever expanding research project I started back in 2003 when I first became obsessed with the history of European erotica and, quickly thereafter, the publishers and artists who were part of the clandestine world of "pornography" during the 19th and very early 20th centuries.

Many of the important erotica illustrators active during that period are represented here through their drawings as well as many detailed check-lists of publications that contain that artist's work; artists which include: Martin van Maele, Felicien Rops, Luc Lafnet, Louis Maltese, Paul Avril, etc.

If it's the publishers of clandestine erotica that you're interested in you will find extensive, annotated checklists and information in general on publishers such as Charles Carrington (Paul Ferdinando), William Dugdale and Jean Fort (Collection des Orties Blanches).

Lui Nostalgia

Lui issue 1
Originally uploaded by opticaljaguar.
Lui is a French adult magazine, first published in 1963 by Daniel Filipacchi.

This monthly was particularly successful from 1964 to the early eighties, featuring many B-List but also prominent French actresses, such as Brigitte Bardot, Mireille Darc or Marlène Jobert. Its motto was Lui, le magazine de l'homme moderne.

And someone is building an online collection of covers.

Psyche Fine Art exhibits sepia-toned photographs of female nudes in an unusual and rather painterly style; it also offers them for sale as 14x11 inch prints on archival paper and (relatively inexpensively) as regular prints of smaller sizes.
